Prior to the appointment you will be asked to fill in a number of questionnaires. These will need to be filled in by the young person, the parent and ideally a teacher that knows the child well.
We expect the individual with parental responsibility to attend these appointments. You will be asked about your child’s development and milestones so it is helpful if you can have this information to hand (when they first walked, talked, potty trained).
If you have any school reports showing how your child has progressed this is also very helpful. It is also helpful ifyour child’s personal health record / red book is brought along to the appointment.
If your child meets the diagnostic criteria, we can talk about the different treatment options that are available and come to a shared decision on how to progress.
The assessment can last between two - three hours and they are very in depth appointments. They are suitable for adults who believe they may have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder
Prior to the assessments we will ask you to take three short screening tools, the ASRS (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), the AQ 50 (Autism Quotient) to look at specific traits of Autism and the CAT Q (Camouflaging Questionnaire) to determine if there are any masking tendencies. We also need you to complete a robust questionnaire, called the Self Report as this helps us to inform how we structure your appointment.
We also ask that a parent or carer complete an Informant report as this helps to inform us how you are perceived by other people and this can tell us what you were like as a child.
If you have a parent or carer you feel comfortable with asking, we recommend they come to your assessment with you, as early development is a crucial part in understanding your presentation.
At interview we are informed by utilising both the Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) structured questions as part of our process. We are also informed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCP) guide.
The assessment chosen wil be dependent on your circumstances, and whether the assessment is in-person or virtual.

We recognize that everybody responds to medication differently. It is difficult to know what may be the best medication and the best dose for any individual, and therefore we follow national guidance in having titration appointments.
The aim of this appointment is to assess your response to medication and titrate accordingly.
You may be required to let the clinician know your blood pressure and pulse rate so please have this information to hand.
Once you are happy with the medication, and there has been a sustained improvement in symptoms you can apply for a shared-care agreement with your GP.
This is a computer-based test that objectively measures the core signs of ADHD: hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. During the test, a number of symbols will appear on your computer screen. Your task is to push the spacebar when a certain symbol appears. Meanwhile, a webcam uses facial recognition technology to track your movements during the test. After test completion, your test result is compared with individuals of the same age and gender, who have ADHD and those who do not. Together with other clinically relevant information, the comparison to the age and gender matched groups will inform your provider about the presence of ADHD symptoms and / or your response to ADHD treatment.
These appointments are for follow ups that may require more than the 15 minute time allocated for titration clinics.
Once you are settled on your medication, we can write to your GP and ask permission for them to take over prescribing the medication. You must discuss this process with us first via email or phone. We cannot guarantee that they will definitely agree, in which case all future prescriptions and follow ups must be paid for through Harley Street Mental Health.
