A private ADHD assessment is a comprehensive evaluation carried out by a qualified mental health professional to determine whether you meet the criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). At Harley Street Mental Health, our private adult ADHD assessments in the UK include an in-depth clinical interview, evidence-based diagnostic tools such as the DIVA 5.0, and a review of developmental history and current symptoms. Assessments typically explore how ADHD symptoms impact areas such as work, education, relationships, and daily functioning.
Choosing a private ADHD assessment offers faster access to diagnosis and treatment compared to NHS waiting times. Following the assessment, a formal diagnostic report is provided, and if a diagnosis is confirmed, we offer guidance on ADHD treatment options, including medication, therapy, and lifestyle strategies.
Yes, all of our private ADHD assessments at Harley Street Mental Health are fully compliant with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines for the diagnosis and management of ADHD. We go beyond the standard requirements by also following the Associated Quality Assured Standards (AQAS) developed by UK adult ADHD specialists. This ensures that our assessments are not only evidence-based but also reflect best practices in the field.
Our clinicians use validated diagnostic tools such as the DIVA 5.0 and follow a structured clinical interview format that meets and exceeds NICE standards. This comprehensive approach includes a detailed review of your developmental history, current symptoms, and the impact of ADHD across different areas of life, including education, work, relationships, and everyday functioning.
By exceeding national guidelines, we aim to provide the highest standard of ADHD care available privately in the UK.

ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) refer to the same condition, but the terminology has evolved. ADHD is the current medical term used to describe individuals who have difficulties with attention, impulsivity, and/or hyperactivity, even if hyperactivity isn’t a prominent symptom.
Historically, ADD was used to describe individuals who had trouble with attention and focus but did not show signs of hyperactivity. Today, this would be diagnosed as ADHD, Predominantly Inattentive Presentation, one of three recognised subtypes under the modern ADHD diagnostic criteria.
At Harley Street Mental Health, we assess for all presentations of ADHD, including:
- Predominantly Inattentive Type (formerly known as ADD)
- Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
- Combined Type

Emily Cook2025-04-07Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot recommend Harley Street Mental Health and Dr. Sijjad Ajaz in particular enough. Having waited several years for a referral via the NHS I was fortunate enough to have the money to pursue a private assessment. The booking process was straight forward. There is a fair bit of prep to do, but all in support in getting the correct diagnosis, so it was reassuring that so much information was gathered. During the assessment Dr Ijaz put me at ease and explained the process very clearly. The assessment was comprehensive and felt very thorough. I felt complete confidence in Dr Ijaz. At the end of the assessment treatment options were completely explained to me and I felt I am in good hands moving forward. Following the assessment I was sent a very thorough report along with all relevant information for the treatment discussed. I really recommend Dr Ijaz and Harley Street Mental Health! Megan Raines2025-04-01Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Harley Street Mental Health has completely changed my life! I’ve struggled with ADHD symptoms for as long as I can remember, but I never thought it applied to me - I just assumed I was forgetful, overly talkative, and bad at focusing when it mattered. Getting assessed was a scary step, but from the first message, Hussnen was amazing, answering my million questions without making me feel silly. Dr. Sumera Raza made me feel so understood, and the whole process was way easier than I expected. If you're a girl who's spent years wondering why life feels harder for you than everyone else, please get the assessment. Women with ADHD are so overlooked, and I wish I had done this sooner. Now, with the right support, I feel like myself - but better. I can’t recommend them enough! I have put together a long review below, so if you want the full deep dive - keep reading! I always knew something was different about me, but I never put a name to it. In school, I managed because the structure forced me to, and anxiety made sure my grades stayed high. But once I left that environment and had to rely on my own routines? It was a disaster. I’d heard ADHD mentioned a few times by therapists when I was younger, but I brushed it off - I thought ADHD was just for hyper little boys, not me. No matter how hard I tried, I always felt like I wasn’t doing enough. My brain would hyperfocus on random things that didn’t matter, but when I needed to focus, it felt impossible. I talked a lot (like, nonstop), blurted things out before thinking, and sometimes felt like I had no filter. I also dealt with insane fatigue - like, no matter how much sleep I got, I was always exhausted. Then there were the weird little things that apparently were ADHD too - overthinking where to sit in a restaurant, being able to predict movies within 15 minutes, and my brain running at 100mph all the time. Getting assessed was terrifying because I was scared of being told something was “wrong” with me. But honestly? It was the best thing I’ve ever done. Hussnen was my first contact, and he was amazing - super quick at replying (which is ideal for impatient people like me) and just made me feel comfortable straight away. If he hadn’t been so understanding and welcoming, I probably would have backed out & waited another 15 years! Dr. Sumera Raza was incredible. She actually listened and made me feel so seen. The more we talked, the more I realised how much ADHD had impacted my life without me even realising. The whole process was way easier than I thought, and now, with the right medication, my life has completely changed. My internal monologue has finally quieted down, the constant food thoughts are gone, and I finally feel like my brain is working with me instead of against me. If you’re a girl who’s ever felt like you’re “too much” or that life is harder for you than everyone else, please get the assessment. ADHD in women is so overlooked, and I promise you’re not just lazy, dramatic, or crazy. This experience has been life-changing, and I honestly can’t thank Harley Street Mental Health enough. 💙 Lily Kitsune2025-03-31Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Was recommended this by a friend, booked in an appointment and got evaluated and diagnosed two days later, Dr Scot Lindsay was very friendly, thorough and understanding through the assessment and answered anything I needed to know. I can't recommend this enough. Rob Clarke2025-03-30Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
