PTSD typically develops after a single traumatic event, such as an accident, assault, or natural disaster, and symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and avoidance behaviours.
CPTSD (Complex PTSD), recognised separately in ICD-11, arises from repeated or prolonged trauma, often during childhood or over an extended period, such as abuse, neglect, or captivity. In addition to the core PTSD symptoms, CPTSD includes emotional dysregulation, persistent negative self-beliefs, and difficulties with relationships.
At Harley Street Mental Health, our expert psychiatrists can assess for and diagnose both PTSD and CPTSD, ensuring you receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate specialist support.
